Welcome to the popcorn challenge!

Cincinnati Museum Center is leading virtual popcorn experiments as part of a National Science Foundation grant called “Food for Thought.” This project investigates how to engage children (ages 7- 14) and their families in STEM concepts present in cooking.

This is a fun activity for the whole family that you can do in your own kitchen!

What will we be doing?

Through Zoom, Cincinnati Museum Center educators will lead a 30-60 minute virtual popcorn-popping workshop with you and your children. During the workshop, we’ll also discuss science concepts, such as designing a good experiment. We will ask you to fill out a survey before and after the challenge. To thank you for participating, we will send your family a $50 Amazon gift card once you have completed the activities.

How do I participate?

Before you can begin, we ask you to click on this link to complete the consent form and provide a little information about your family, which we will keep confidential.

After we receive this information, Museum Center’s research partners at Kent State University will contact you to register for a challenge date and time in May, June, or July 2021. We will ask each child to complete a brief pre-test and post-test, which will take approximately 10 minutes each to complete. We will send a unique link for each child.
